Mental Fitness Challenge Week 6

Posted by Brandon Dillon on June 6, 2012

Wow week 6 so far in the Mental Fitness Challenge and its awesome, it really is amazing how fast time goes by when your tracking something and not just letting the days blend together. I wanted to stop and write on this chapter from Orrin Woodward’s book Resolved 13 resolutions on Attitude and reframing because I think it so important.

People often think that their situations will cause them to have a good or bad day or good or bad trip or what ever the case may be, but you don’t want to let something that’s out of your control determine weather or not your going to have a positive day. You want to be in complete control if your life don’t you? You want to determine weather or not you have a good day because then your in control and you have the power to change it, if you leave it up to someone or something else then your at the mercy of anything that could happen. Here are some examples from Orrin’s book.

In your mind bank there are two tellers – both of whom are obedient to your every command. One teller is positive and handles positive deposits and positive withdrawals. The other teller is negative and will accept all negative deposits and provide you with negative feedback.

As the owner of your mind, you have complete control over all withdrawals and most deposits. The deposits represent your total experience in life. The withdrawals determine your success and happiness. Obviously, you cant withdraw anything that hasn’t been deposited. (That’s true in the cash bank too, isn’t it?)

Each transaction involves a choice of which teller to use. Confront the negative teller with a problem and he will remind you of how poorly you performed in the past. He will predict failure with your current problem. Confront your positive teller and he will enthusiastically tell you how you successfully dealt with far more difficult problems in the past. He will give you examples of your skill and genius and assure you that you can easily solve this problem. Both tellers are right because: whether you think you can or think you cant – you are right.

Our negative teller is usually screaming at us inside while the positive one is whispering and it takes constant focus and working, to turn down the negative and turn up the positive. But its so important that we pick the positive teller and he Zig Ziglar said we must put in positive to be able to with draw positive. What positive messages are you putting in your brain on a daily basis?  if your not we have a great way for you to get that here Www.Dillonenterprises.com thought a subscription of audio and books chosen by the best leaders in the world and association for challenge groups for the Mental Fitness Challenge and leadership seminars with people who want to move forward in the game of life, not just stand still.

This next story is amazing and it really shows how you can look at the same situation two different ways, and shows the power of choice. This is from Creators Syndicate by Mary Hunt and shows how powerful reframing is.

years ago, my husband and I decided not to replace my car once the lease was up. The plan as that because we work together, we would share his car until we could pay cash for a second car. We figured that would take 6 months or so. I won’t say this new arrangement was enjoyable. Actually I hated it. I felt as if I’d lost my freedom. My wings were clipped; no more spontaneity for me. if I wasn’t being “chaperoned” as a passenger in my husband’s car, I was having to ask permission to borrow it. Let me just put it this way I was not the most pleasant passenger.

we’d been commuting together for about 3 months when I realized that it wasn’t the situation that was intolerable. it was me. I was making myself miserable, not recognizing that the nicest guy in the world was willing to take me anywhere I wanted to go, anytime I wanted to get there. I was ungrateful and horribly self-centered. I needed an attitude, and I needed it quickly.

I decided I had to reframe my thinking because the situation wasn’t going to change anytime soon. I decided that rather than be a pathetic dependent child, I would see my self as a woman of privilege. I have a driver! Every day, I am driving back and forth to work, during which time I am free to chat, read, write, think knit or nap. I never have to wash a car. I don’t have to pump gas into it, insure it, register it or have it “smogged” ( a California thing) – all because my driver is also my maintenance man. Several times a year when I need to go in a different direction, I get a rental car, which allows me to try out some brand-new fancy cars and get my fix behind the wheel. See? A different way of looking at the same situation.

When Hunt listened to her negative voice, she framed the events negatively, when she chose to talk to the positive teller then she got a new perspective.

Have a great day and see you at the top!!
